- בִּיל, בּוּלch. (cmp. b. h. בָּלַל) to mix, knead; trnsf. (cmp. גרס, דרש) to study thoroughly. Men.65a (play on בלשן, Neh. 7:7; cmp. בלש) הוה בָּיֵיל … ודריש he studied languages and explained them. Pa. בַּיֵּיל same; trnsf. to discuss. Y.Ab. Zar. III, 43a מאן דתני אֹובִיל נייבל (read נְבַיֵּיל) he who reads in the Mish. (III, 5; v. בִּין Hif.) obil, means, Let us discuss the subject.
